Join us for an insightful Industry Session on "Public Health and Community Impact: Enhancing Orthopaedic Care in South Sudan," where we will explore the critical intersection of public health and orthopaedic surgery in the context of South Sudan. Guest Speaker: Yak NakWe are honoured to have Yak Nak as our guest speaker for this session. Yak brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, with a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology from the University of Arizona, providing him with a solid scientific foundation. His diverse background includes roles in education as an Algebra II tutor/teacher and part-time bartender. These experiences ignited his passion for teaching, youth mentorship, and exploring the multifaceted human experience.
Currently, Yak is pursuing a dual pathway in medicine and public health. He is a medical student at the University of Missouri-Columbia, dedicated to becoming a compassionate, well-rounded, and patient-centered physician. Alongside his medical studies, he is also working toward a Master of Public Health (MPH) at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, with a strong focus on addressing healthcare disparities and promoting global orthopaedic surgery.
Yak’s commitment to global health is evident in his research with the South Sudan Orthopaedic Trauma Society (SOTS), where he focuses on identifying and overcoming barriers to orthopaedic care in South Sudan. His work aims to enhance orthopaedic surgical access and outcomes in his home country, driven by a deep passion for patient care, education, and research.
