A Year of Civic Dialogue, Innovation, and Community Connection
Between January and December 2025, Scenius Hub continued to serve as a dynamic civic, cultural, and innovation space in Juba, hosting and supporting a wide range of programs that reflected the social, technological, and intellectual priorities of South Sudan’s evolving community.
Over the course of the year, the Hub facilitated more than 150 physical, hybrid, and online events, engaging an estimated 4,000+ participants across multiple events.

Programming was delivered both directly by Scenius Hub and through partnerships with civil society organisations, youth-led initiatives, cultural groups, academic institutions, and international actors, including UN-affiliated programs. Activities were conducted in English and Arabic, reinforcing the Hub’s commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and broad community participation.
Capacity Building: Trainings and workshops
In 2025, Scenius Hub hosted a series of trainings, some led by partner institutions that equipped participants with practical skills in digital literacy, cybersecurity, content moderation, AI, Internet governance, entrepreneurship, innovation, content creation, and a children's camp. Building on these capacity-building initiatives, the Hub also placed a strong emphasis on supporting programs empowering women and advancing gender equity.
Through partnerships with women-led and gender-focused organizations, Scenius Hub created spaces that highlighted women’s leadership, wellbeing, creativity, and civic participation. Key initiatives included International Women’s Day commemorations, women’s empowerment community events with Giants of Africa, and BanatRise mentorship programs, which focused on leadership development, mental health awareness, and professional growth for young women. The Hub also hosted art therapy sessions for women human rights defenders, providing safe and supportive environments for healing, expression, and resilience.
Additionally, discussions addressing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), including the ResPEct Project in implemented by GIZ, offered platforms for awareness, dialogue, and community-driven solutions to gender-based challenges. Collectively, these efforts reinforced Scenius Hub’s commitment to amplifying women’s voices, nurturing leadership, and actively advancing gender equity.
Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement
Youth engagement remained central to Scenius Hub’s mission throughout 2025. The Hub hosted and supported youth-centered platforms such as International Youth Day celebrated in partnership with Eden Foundation and Ametal, an event honouring the life of the late Raila Odinga, Youth-Led Campaigns for Legislative Reform, and Amplifying Youth Voices, creating space for young people to engage with issues of governance, peacebuilding, legislation, and national identity.
These initiatives positioned youth as active civic actors, encouraging dialogue, advocacy, and leadership while fostering a culture of informed participation in public life.
Human Rights, Law, and Public Discourse
In partnership with the Vision Center for Legal Studies and the African Center for Legal Studies & Human Rights, Scenius Hub hosted a series of public lectures, symposiums, and roundtable discussions focused on legal literacy, governance, labour law, legal immunity, gender rights, and human rights advocacy.
Events addressing SGBV, access to justice, national liberation, agriculture and food security, and peacebuilding attracted students, professionals, activists, and members of the public, reinforcing the Hub’s role as a neutral space for thoughtful and informed debate.
We also hosted an engaging policy and legislation discussion focused on advancing youth rights and opportunities through legislative reforms in collaboration with the South Sudan National Youth Union (SSNYU), Markaz Al Salam (MAS) and supported by Norwegian People's Aid.
Technology, Innovation, and Digital Skills
Technology and innovation programming expanded significantly in 2025. Scenius Hub through meetups and events, convened AI dialogues, blockchain meetups, digital agriculture discussions, cybersecurity sessions, and digital literacy trainings, with flagship engagements such as IndabaX South Sudan, and Digital Agricultural Revolution: Digitizing Fields.
Hybrid and online formats enabled wider participation, particularly to engage with professionals outside Juba, while hands-on workshops though few, supported practical skills development in emerging and relevant technologies.
Culture, Creativity, and Intellectual Life
Cultural programming remained a defining feature of Scenius Hub’s identity. Through the Scenius Arabic Section, the Hub hosted intellectual seminars, book discussions, poetry evenings, theatrical performances, and commemorations of cultural and historical milestones such as the Indigenous People's Day . Additionally, through events organised at the hub by institutions such as Cultural Trend Network and Maale Cultural group, we have been able to provide a platform for the youth to express their culture through food, dancing, singing and arts.
Creative events, including art exhibitions, content creation workshops such as Create With Impact: Digital Storytelling & Advocacy. film screenings, fashion showcases, storytelling workshops, and book launches. strengthened artistic expression and cultural exchange.
Notable highlights included An Evening with Siran Riak: Fashion & Film, poetry evenings, drama performances, and multiple literature-focused discussions that brought together artists, thinkers, and community members.
Community Wellbeing and Social Connection
Beyond formal programming, Scenius Hub functioned as a space for community wellbeing and connection. Workshops on trauma healing, art therapy, mental health awareness, and GBV prevention addressed pressing social needs, while blood donation campaigns and health-focused initiatives such as the breast cancer awareness supported community care.
Recurring social activities, such as movie nights, karaoke nights, games night community bazaars, and celebrations tied to international days, fostered belonging, peer interaction, and sustained engagement across diverse groups.
An Open Co-Working Space for All
Throughout 2025, Scenius Hub’s co-working space remained open and accessible to freelancers, entrepreneurs, creatives, professionals, remote workers, and students. The space provided a supportive environment for productivity, collaboration, and learning serving as a study space for university students, a workspace for early-stage startups, and a meeting point for multidisciplinary collaboration.
This open-door approach reinforced the Hub’s role not just as an events venue, but as a daily working and learning environment that supports both structured programming and informal knowledge exchange.
Community Outreach
In 2025, Scenius Hub extended its work beyond formal programming through a series of community outreach activities that reinforced its commitment to social responsibility and collective care. These efforts included a neighbourhood clean-up to commemorate World Environment Day, the Hub also carried out outreach visits to a staff family farm in Juba Na Bari, Gorom Refugee Camp, a breaking fast together festive eating during Ramathan, an orphanage visit and community outreach to Mangaten IDP camp, Gurei, Jebel and Sherikat under the UNFPA Community Led Innovation project, creating opportunities for connection, learning, and solidarity across different community settings. Additionally, Scenius Hub organized a blood donation drive in honour of Dr. Aggrey Jaden, bringing together volunteers in a shared act of service that emphasized compassion, public health, and community wellbeing. Together, these activities reflected Scenius Hub’s people-centered approach to engagement, grounded in presence, inclusion, and meaningful impact beyond its walls.
